Embarking on the Journey

As a reminder, we are planning to spend the summer in Michigan at Pier 1000 Marina, near Dea’s mom’s summer home. Our plan is to practice, practice, practice before we head South in August. Larry convinced Dea we needed to bring her 2005 Thunderbird Convertible for a fun car for the summer. Thursday night before Memorial Day we loaded up the cars, Larry drove 2 hours to Carrolton, Missouri to pick up a U-haul trailer. We loaded up the T-bird on the trailer and realized the fender of the trailer blocked the door from opening. We had a problem!

Dea created a new verb and told Larry to “Duke’s of Hazzard it” to get out of the car. But then we realized, we couldn’t close the window or get to the ignition. We spent about 10 minutes stressing out. We wondered, maybe our tiny neighbor child could fit in! At that time we both noticed the release handles on the trailer fender.

You can release the fender and drop it down for door clearance!!! Problem solved! This is just typical of what we expect on our journey. Things never go quite as smoothly as expected.

After that we had an uneventful trip (Dea’s mom on board) to Michigan, where we will settle for the summer.

You would think they could have told you that when you picked up the trailer! Glad you figured it out! 😉 You are smart cookies.
