On the boat again…

When you last heard from us, we had arrived in Iuka, Mississippi. We had originally planned to stay here for about 6 weeks and explore the area and then head back to Lawrence for a month or so. One thing we have learned on this adventure is to not count on OUR plans. Larry tore his rotator cuff, so we went home much earlier than planned to get it fixed. While it wasn’t our plan, we did get to send Spencer off on his adventure to Madrid.

(He is living his best life in Spain! Also, officially moving to Dallas to work for international paper when he returns!)

Larry’s surgery went just as planned, no complications and a good repair. BUT, recovery is not easy with a rotator cuff repair. He spent 6 weeks in a sling and then started therapy. He is now continuing therapy with his favorite PT (Me!) in the boat.

3 weeks after his surgery we spent an overnight in Kansas City for a great date night the weekend before Dea’s surgery! My 4th joint replacement (Left hip this time).

We looked like quite the couple, Larry in a sling and Dea on crutches. We told people things did not go well on the boat and got into a pretty bad fight!

Both of us are continuing to recover well. We headed back to Iuka this week and found the Red Pearl to be safe and sound, albeit dirty. Our hope is to start heading down river toward Mobile and the Gulf this weekend. Again, we are learning to not count on our plans. This morning we wanted to go out for a test cruise. The starboard engine purred to life beautifully. The port engine… click click click. Our new battery (bought in May) would not start the engine. We were able to “parallel start” the port engine from the starboard. Currently we are waiting on the electrician from the Marina to come take a look… We will keep you posted! Thanks for following along.

Wow! You’ve had quite a few crazy months! Glad you are back on the water. Hoping the engine troubles are minimal and you’ll be on your way soon!

    Take Care,
