We continued our southbound trajectory from Midway Marina through 4 locks and about 60 miles to Columbus Marina. There we hosted Robert Duval (not the actor!) for dinner, a French Canadian gentleman who is Looping with his dog, Gaiia. It was a great evening getting to know someone new!

Robert’s boat Genansi.
The next morning we left a 6 a.m. for another big day, 60 miles and 3 locks. 7 boats left the marina with us and we went straight into the lock. We then spent the day traveling with the 4 fastest boats. Of course, “fast” is relative as we cruise at 9 mph.

Some interesting sights along the way, including a phone booth on shore.

We spent the night “on the hook” as boaters call anchoring out. We anchored with 8 other boats in a quiet channel off the river near Gainesville, AL. We have now traveled through 8 states MI, IN, IL, MO, KN, TN, MS, and AL . We also were able to take our dinghy “Mini Pearl” to shore and get a walk in before dark.

It was a beautiful, peaceful night under the stars.

Up again the next morning to a beautiful sunrise and underway again.
