Marathon

Marathon is set in about the center of the Florida Keys. We were set up for 3 nights at a marina/resort. It was very nice with a waterfront pool!

We were within walking distance to several restaurants and shops. We enjoyed some Cuban food and of course some more seafood.

We did have our first sighting of manatees at the marina. All I could think of was “Barbara Manatee, you are the one for me!”. IYKYK.

Through out Marathon (and we also discovered Key West) there are feral roosters and chickens that roam the streets. The story is that in the 1800’s Cuban immigrants participated in cock fighting. In the 1980’s, cockfighting was banned and so the birds were released. They are protected and roam freely (particularly at the Publix grocery store and the restaurant we went to for lunch).

Our B and B that we were planning to stay in was gracious enough to allow us to park the boat early (and save us some $$!). We moved the boat from the marina over the the B and B and parked it.

If you know us at all, you will know that we are super planners. We do not do a lot of things spontaneously. But we did! We decided to take an Uber to Key West and stay in a cute bungalow resort hotel! More on Key West in the next post.
